UK car insurance customers looking to save money on brand new vehicles can do so for another month after the Governments successful scrappage scheme was extended until the end of March. The scheme allows owners of vehicles aged 10 years or older to be scrapped in order to obtain £2,000 off the price of a new car.
Nevertheless, although the scheme is being extended until the end of the month there is no more funding to be added by the government as the scheme is still set to be phased out with limited availability already for drivers across the UK.
There remains room for another 70,000 vehicles to be used in the scrappage scheme and complete premise of the method has come in for significant praise.
Business Secretary, Lord Mandelson, said: Against the background of the economic downturn the Scrappage Scheme has proved a great success, driving UK car sales, protecting jobs and supporting the supply chain for car manufacture at a time when this sector needed it most.
